Mt. Sneffels Pond at Log Hill

Location: Colorado, Ridgway, Log Hill

From a hidden vantage point on Log Hill above Ridgway, Mt. Sneffels (14,158') loomed huge, like a Himalayan peak. By sketching the mountain a bit larger than the actual proportion and then painting it a bit lighter, I could better express its size and distance. I had to work fast, though, before the mountain top became completely enveloped in afternoon clouds. In the end, I had to finish the pond in the foreground later in my studio.
